All visitors to the cathedral must dress appropriately for a house of worship in order to be admitted. Visitors with bare legs and shoulders or wearing sandals, hats, and sunglasses are not allowed inside the cathedral.
For the safety and preservation of the cathedral, the following items are prohibited inside:
- Bags, suitcases, backpacks, parcels, containers and large and medium-sized bags
- Umbrellas, canes (when not used to assist walking), tripods for cameras and film cameras
- Metal tools and knives that could be dangerous to people, as well as the exhibits
- Objects that have the unquestionable judgement of the personnel responsible for the controls to be dangerous to the integrity and safety of the place

Small Cloakroom: located in Piazza Duomo no 9. Visitors who intend to climb the Cúpula, Campanario and visit Bautisterio y Santa Reparata (Brunelleschi, Giotto, Ghiberti Pass tickets) must check their bags inside the Large Cloakroom.
